COOK COUNTY CRIMINAL COURTHOUSE — A Gold Coast woman paid for plastic surgery, lingerie and veterinarian bills with more than $82,000 she swindled from a Near North Side nonprofit, prosecutors said Tuesday.

Center for New Community, 47 W. Division St., realized the money was missing during a recent audit, according to Assistant State's Attorney Lorraine Scaduto.

Prosecutors said Amy Spicer, 40, racked up more than $82,500 in charges while she worked as the nonprofit's operations and human resources manager from 2009 to 2013.

Spicer allegedly used company credit cards to make more than 650 unauthorized purchases totaling $71,230, Scaduto said. Among the charges was plastic surgery, lingerie, European travel and more than $10,000 in veterinarian bills.

According to court records, Spicer also fraudulently reimbursed herself from the Center for New Community's flexible benefits accounts.

Spicer, who lives in the first block of East Scott Street in Gold Coast, was charged with felony theft. On Tuesday, Judge Donald Panarese Jr. ordered Spicer to hand over any passports before she was released on a $10,000 i-bond.
