LINCOLN PARK — Lincoln Park High School's premier chamber ensemble will be in the pit of the historic Auditorium Theatre for the classic Christmas ballet, "The Nutcracker."

It is the first time the 28-member choir will be singing alongside professional performers when they join the Chicago Philharmonic orchestra for a piece in Act 1.

"They are actually performing with the other performers, so it's a very good experience for them," said Tim Cooper, director of the high school's choirs.

The school's chamber choir is not new to the spotlight, as it performed on "The Today Show" in 2011.

During The Nutcracker performance on Sunday, the choir will be serving as the chorus with the pit orchestra for the only piece that has a vocal component.

The choir will also be singing carols in the lobby of the theater before the performance.

The choir has upward of 30 performances each school year and will also be performing pre-show entertainment at the Goodman Theatre before "A Christmas Carol" on Dec. 15.
