PORTAGE PARK — An elderly woman was killed in a house fire Tuesday afternoon in Portage Park, Ald. Tim Cullerton (38th) said.
The cause of the 2 p.m. fire in the 5200 block of West Melrose Street is still under investigation, Cullerton said.
The woman who died was in her 70s, Cullerton said. She was discovered in the home's living area.
Chicago Fire Department spokesman Larry Langford said additional information about the fire would be released this afternoon.
