Burglars Stealing Copper Piping from Abandoned Buildings in Austin: Police

AUSTIN — Burglars have been targeting abandoned, foreclosed and empty buildings in Austin, police said in a community alert Monday.

The thieves forced their way into several buildings and cut holes in walls to remove copper piping. They also stole heaters, stoves, furnaces and locks from some properties.

The burglaries have generally occured between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m., police said.

Incidents took place on:

• Nov. 20 in the 600 block of North Laramie Avenue

• Nov. 19 in the 4800 block of West Huron Street

• between July 9 and Nov. 24 in the 4800 block of West Iowa Street

• between Nov. 13 and 19 in the 700 block of North Laramie Avenue
