NORWOOD PARK — The Chicago chapter of the Thomas Merton Society will discuss prayer, contemplation and social justice at a Sunday event at Immaculate Conception Parish.
The society is is dedicated to promoting the work of Merton — an American Catholic writer, monk, poet and social activist — who would have celebrated his 100th birthday in 2015.
Thomas Merton: A Trustworthy Guide for Laypeople will be the topic at 2 p.m. Sunday at Immaculate Conception Parish Rectory Assembly, 7211 W. Talcott Ave.
Mike Brennan, coordinator of the Chicago chapter, will explore passages on prayer, contemplation and social justice. A discussion will follow.
Admission is free and refreshments will be served.
