Five Dead, 11 Wounded in Weekend Violence Across the City

CHICAGO — Five people were killed and 11 others were wounded in violence across the city over the weekend.

The most recent fatal shooting occurred around 12:15 a.m. Monday in Galewood.

Also overnight, a 33-year-old man was stabbed during an argument with his girlfriend's son about 2:20 a.m. in Englewood, said Officer Ana Pacheco, a Chicago Police spokeswoman.

The man was in the 6500 block of South Lowe Avenue when he got into a fight with his girlfriend's 26-year-old son. During the fight, the 33-year-old was stabbed in his face and chest. He was taken to Stroger Hospital in stable condition, Pacheco said.

About two hours earlier, a man was shot during an attempted robbery on the Northwest Side, Pacheco said.

Around 12:25 a.m., a 31-year-old man got out of his car to deliver a pizza in the 5400 block of North East River Road when he was approached by two men, one of whom had a gun. The two started to rob the man, and during the struggle the pizza driver was shot in his head. The two robbers away without getting any money from the driver, Pacheco said.

The 31-year-old man was taken to Lutheran General in critical condition and no one is in custody for the shooting, Pacheco said.

Earlier Sunday, a 44-year-old man was killed after being shot in Cragin and a man was stabbed to death on the Near North Side.

From Saturday into Sunday morning, four people were wounded in shootings across the city and a man was killed in Chatham.

From Friday night into Saturday, five people were shot and a boy was killed.
