CHICAGO — Cook County Sheriff's officers discovered an AK-47 and drugs, including crack cocaine, during a home check of a man on electronic monitoring Thursday, authorities said.
Investigators visited the South Austin home of Michael Rivers, 23, Thursday afternoon, conducting a home check after Rivers was suspected of violating a curfew, a news release from the Sheriff's Office said. When the investigators entered the home, in the 100 block of North Laramie Avenue, they discovered "in plain view, on the dining room floor, what appeared to be crack cocaine on a plate."
They also found a fully loaded AK-47, a loaded .357 pistol and suspected marijuana, the release said.
Rivers was arrested and charged with unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon, possession of more than 15 grams of cocaine and possession of marijuana. He appeared in court Friday, and was ordered held on $75,000 bail.
Two other people were taken into custody during the home check, but were not charged.
Rivers was on electronic monitoring after a previous arrest for drug possession.
