CHICAGO — Calling all Detroit expats: Nonprofit organization Born and Raised Detroit Foundation is throwing its third annual Motown fundraiser in Wicker Park to raise money for programming in the Motor City.

This year's event, which is presented by Detroit-based leather and watch company Shinola, will be held from 9 p.m.-2 a.m. Nov. 15 at Chop Shop, 2033 W. North Ave.

The foundation was started in 2011 by a group of young professionals who grew up in metro Detroit. While some of them eventually moved to other places, "there was this need, this passion, to stay connected to the place they called home," according to the foundation's website.

Over the past six years, the organization has raised more than $200,000 for nonprofits that help financially support causes throughout the city.

For example, in 2013 it raised money for a Detroit charter school, Summer in the City's community garden and a teaching aid called Beyond Basics, among many others.

For the Chicago event, guests must be 21 or older and show up in cocktail attire. Chicago-based DJ White Owl will be providing the entertainment.

Tickets can be bought here. Tickets are $100 in advance and $120 at the door. All tickets are non-refundable; 50 percent of the ticket price is tax-refundable.
