CHICAGO — A 32-year-old man shot by police Saturday was charged with two felony counts of aggravated assault of a police officer, police said.

Around 8:15 p.m. Saturday, police were called to the 5800 block of South Morgan Street in Englewood for a call of shots fired and saw Kurtis Garret, 32, who matched the description of the shooter, running away from the home, police said.

Officers chased Garrett before finally confronting him on the porch. Garrett dropped the gun but refused to move away from it, and then moments later reached again for it, police said. He was then shot multiple times by police, police said.

Garrett, of the 6200 block of South Ada Street, was listed in serious condition at Stroger Hospital, police said.

According to Pat Camden, spokesman for the Fraternal Order of Police, the parents of the victim had called police after their son had kicked in the back door of their home and opened fire inside.

Garrett is expected in bond court Monday.
