WICKER PARK — Still looking for inspiration to create your Halloween costume?
Check out our photo slideshow from Boo-Palooza, where hundreds of children, families and dogs showed off their unique costumes in a parade around a field in Wicker Park, 1425 N. Damen Ave., on Saturday.
Boo-Palooza is a community-wide celebration organized by the Wicker Park Advisory Council, the Wicker Park Garden Club, Mosaic Church and Urban Encounter, with support from nearly 60 local groups, volunteers and sponsors.
"Everyone is a winner in my book, if you put on a costume," Master of Ceremonies Scott Venable told a crowd of around 500 before handing out prizes for the top child, family, dog and adult costumes.
Costume highlights included the five-member Cho family, who dressed as characters from "The Wizard of Oz."
Pat and Al Linnerud, whom, along with their dogs, Winston and Ray, channeled Scottish pride to become "The MacRay" clan.
Lincoln Park residents Chris Heck and Shannon Burch dressed up their one-year-old, nearly 100-pound Leonberger, Merlin, as a "spider dog" to compliment Burch's spider witch costume.
A cross between a Newfoundland and a St. Bernard, Merlin wore a dog life jacket with a large spider affixed to the top of the vest.
"It is his first Halloween, we wanted to do something fun," Burch said.
