Two Questioned in South Austin Shooting That Killed One, Wounded One

CHICAGO — One man was killed and another wounded after being shot Friday night in South Austin, police said.

At 10 p.m., two men, 23 and 24, were standing in a yard in the 5500 block of West Corcoran Place when someone opened fired from the sidewalk, said Officer Janel Sedevic, a Chicago Police spokeswoman.

The 23-year-old man was shot in his face and armpit and pronounced dead on the scene at 10:43 p.m.

The 24-year-old man was shot in his arm. He took himself to West Suburban Medical Center, where he was listed in stable condition, Sedevic said.

According to police, both victims were documented gang members.

The homicide victim was identified by the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office as Denzell Franklin.

Two men are being questioned for the shooting, but no charges have been filed.
