WICKER PARK — A popular late-night club known for its "Porn and Chicken" Monday night dance party will unveil a new look over Halloween weekend, complete with an 18-foot-long pirate ship and an electronic LED wall "approximately the size of a CTA bus," according to a news release.
Across from the CTA Blue Line Division "L" station, Evil Olive at 1551 W. Division St. is planning a relaunch with five nights of parties tied to the storybook theme of "Evil Island."
Updates to the venue, which has also undergone a change in management, include a brand-new LED wall as well as two new sound systems.
According to the release, there will be a beached ship in the entrance, jungle scenes on the dance floor, an upstairs VooDoo Palace and an underwater scene in a back room that will "make party-goers feel like they’re actually on an island."
The renovations will include an 18-foot-long pirate ship and a giant treasure chest and mermaids hanging from the ceiling.
The following events will take place during the relaunch:
Oct. 29
Chapter 1 of the storybook, the "Shipwrecked Industry Preview." The event will feature DJs Black and Yellow, Orville Kline and more.
Oct. 31
Chapter 2 of the storybook, "Trouble in Paradise." Certain elements "will give the impression the island is possessed," according to a news release. The evening will include a Halloween Costume Contest with a $500 prize for first place, $200 for second place and $100 for third place.
Nov. 1
Chapter 3 of the storybook, "The Taste of Evil." Featured performers will include fire breathers, stilt walkers and burlesque dancers. The party will be hosted by DJ’s Custom Vibes and Chicago house DJ Allay Soul, with helps from DJ’s Nephets, Gene Hunt, Molly Bass, Czboogie, Karl and Mark Almaria and Demchuk.
Nov. 2
Chapter 4 of the storybook,"Dystopia." Partygoers can expect a war between the post-apocalyptic pirate rescue team and the already possessed VooDoo Island. Local event company Bamcreates will host the party, and featured DJs include Win and Woo along with Xionic, Hexes, Kalendar Infinity, Steve Gerard, B+Y, and Dustin Sheridan.
Nov. 3
SRTB Presents: Porn and Chicken VooDoo Island, a Halloween Hangover Banger, a celebration of all things Evil. Guest DJs Avi Sic and Cindel will join resident DJs PHIVES, Orville Kline and Dom Brown.
Evil Olive is at W. Division St. Hours are 10:30 p.m.-4 a.m. Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays and 10:30 p.m.-5 a.m. Saturdays.
