17-Year-Old Boy Charged With First Degree Murder in Lawndale Shooting

CHICAGO — A 17-year-old boy has been charged with first degree murder in the Sept. 14 fatal shooting of a 28-year-old man in Lawndale, police said.

Around 1:45 p.m. Sept. 14, a man was walking on the sidewalk in the 4100 block of West 16th Street when the boy shot him in the chest, police said.

The man was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in critical condition with a gunshot wound to the chest and later pronounced dead, police said.

The Cook County Medical Examiner's Office identified the victim as Charles Labon of the 1900 block of South St. Louis Avenue.

The boy is set to appear in Central Bond Court on Wednesday.
