Radio Extra: 93-Year-Old Shoe Repair Business Closes in Rogers Park

ROGERS PARK — A shoe shine and repair shop that survived the Great Depression and two relocations has closed. 

Cobbler's opened in 1921 under the newly elevated "L" tracks on Morse Avenue. Owner John Geroulis, 73, inherited the business from his father Peter, who opened the original location. 

The younger Geroulis has fallen ill over the past year, and facing $40,000 in back rent, decided to shut down for now.
