ENGLEWOOD — St. Benedict the African Church's upcoming Octoberfest is a free family event that will include a wine and beer garden.

Octoberfest runs from 11:30 a.m.-5 p.m. on Oct. 26 at the church, 6550 S. Harvard Ave., and will have a host of games, music and foods, such as a barbecue and a salad bar.

Organizers said the neighborhood event is a way for the church to bring residents together and to introduce the church to residents unfamiliar with it.

Already known for hosting community events, the church hosted a stepper's party last year.

In December, the parish closed its elementary school, the Academy of St. Benedict the African, due to budget constraints. The school had operated for more than 100 years.
