CHINATOWN — Artists are invited to an upcoming community forum to discuss ideas for a public art installation at the city's new Chinatown library.
The open-to-the-public forum takes place 5-6:30 p.m. Wednesday at the current Chinatown branch of the Chicago Public Library, 2353 S. Wentworth Ave.
Library officials will be on hand to talk about plans for the new architecturally significant, high-tech library, which is slated to open in July near Wentworth and Archer avenues.
Together with the city's department of cultural affairs, a panel made up of local civic leaders and project architects will select an artist or team of artists to "create a high impact, elegant, site-specific artwork that responds to the light-filled, open architecture, as well as the concept of wisdom and the search for knowledge that the function of a library implies," according to the city's call for submissions.
Applications for interested artists are due by Nov. 6.
