CHICAGO — As you may have noticed, pothole season is no longer limited to the spring and summer months. Recognizing that filling holes in the road is a year-round job, Mayor Rahm Emanuel's office announced Tuesday that they'll double the pothole-filling budget next year.

Emanuel will commit an additional $10 million to allow crews to fill potholes and fix streets all year instead of just seasonally, the mayor's office said in a statement. The additional investment comes after "strike teams" deployed this spring following the notorious polar vortex, which left gigantic potholes all around the city.

So far in 2014, city crews have filled more than 750,000 potholes, the mayor's office said.

The additional funding will double the number of crews making the repairs and make it a year-round effort. It will also build on the city's street-paving program, which has seen 355 miles of streets and alleys repaved this year and more than 1,000 miles since Emanuel took office in 2011.

Emanuel delivers his 2015 budget proposal to the City Council on Wednesday.
