Nine Wounded in City Shootings, Including Three in 40 Minutes

CHICAGO — At least eight people were wounded in shootings across the city since Saturday night, and police killed a man who allegedly pointed a weapon at them.

In the most recent shooting, a 17-year-old boy was shot in the back while walking in the 1600 block of West 73rd Street, police said. He was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in "stable" condition.

Three people were wounded in a 40-minute period Sunday morning, police said.

Two 16-year-old boys were shot, including one who suffered a graze wound to the head.

At 10:05 a.m., in the 6800 block of South Morgan Street, a 16-year-old boy was walking when two males shot at him and fled. The boy's head was grazed by a bullet; he was taken to Stroger Hospital, where his condition had stabilized, police said.

At 10:25, in the 10600 block of South LaSalle Street, a 16-year-old boy riding in a van was shot. He took himself to Roseland Hospital, and was later taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center, where he was listed in serious condition.

No one is in custody, police said, and Area South detectives are investigating.

At 10:44 a.m., in the 3600 block of West Lexington Avenue, a 20-year-old man was shot in the right thigh, police said. He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where his condition had stabilized. Area North detectives are investigating.

Earlier, at approximately 2:45 a.m. Sunday morning, a 25-year-old man was shot in the 12200 of South Halsted Street,.

He was walking on the sidewalk when shots were fired, said Officer Ana Pachecho, a police spokeswoman.

The man was shot in the ankle and suffered a graze wound on the wrist before transporting himself to Roseland Community Hospital, said Officer Pachecho.

At about 2:30 a.m., a 51-year-old man was shot during a robbery attempt in the 1600 block of South Central Park Avenue, Pacheco said. When the victim refused to cooperate, the robber shot him, striking him in the side, Pacheco said.

The man was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in critical condition.

Five minutes earlier, in the 4000 Block of West Cortland Avenue, a 25-year-old man was walking in an alley when he was approached by three men who opened fire, striking the man in the left foot, Pacheco said.

The man was taken to Norwegian American Hospital. No one is in custody, Pachecho said.

Police shot and killed a man in Washington Park after he allegedly pointed a weapon at them during a foot chase.

Earlier, around 10:10 p.m. Saturday, a 26-year-old was driving on the 2800 of North Kildare Avenue when a car pulled up and someone inside opened fire, striking the man on the left arm, Pachecho said.

He took himself to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Hospital and was listed in good condition, Pachecho said.

About 9:45 p.m. Saturday, a 15-year-old boy was standing on the 5600 Block of West Lake Street when he was approached by an unidentified man who opened fire, said Pacheco said.

The boy was shot in the buttocks and was taken to Stroger Hospital in "stable" condition, said Pachecho.

According to police, the boy was an documented gang member.
