CHICAGO — Emergency crews battled a three-alarm fire in a residential part of Bridgeport Sunday afternoon.

At least 10 people were displaced in the blaze in the 2900 block of South Lyman Street, fire officials said. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Two firefighters reportedly suffered minor injuries.

Firefighters responded to a mayday call and five ambulances were sent to the scene.

The fire was declared under control around 3:50 p.m.

Sandy Diaz, 38, of Bridgeport, was driving on Lyman when she noticed the flames raging from what appeared to be the attic of a two-story home.

"It was really bad. There was a lot of smoke and you could actually see where the fire started to go onto the lower levels and the ashes caught the other houses on fire ... People were screaming for everyone to get out of their houses. They were in shock. It was a really bad fire," she said.

This is a developing story.
