LOGAN SQUARE — Logan’s Square’s beloved Fleur flower shop is moving next month after a decade near the neighborhood's namesake monument.

Luckily for loyal customers, the shop won’t be going far — it's headed to 2651 N. Milwaukee Ave., across the street from the Logan Theatre.

Fleur began as a tiny “bucket shop” at California Avenue and Logan Boulevard 13 years ago and has become a go-to shop for local brides and other flower lovers, according to owner Kelly Marie Thompson.

“Now that we’re moving in October, we’ll once again slowly begin to expand our gift lines and plants, offer design classes and really do our best to keep small businesses alive and thriving in Logan Square,” she said in an email.

Fleur’s last day at 3149 W. Logan Blvd. will be Oct. 4 though Thompson plans to re-open in the new space by the weekend of Oct. 10. She opted to leave her current location, she said, because the writing was on the wall.

Thompson said she recently received notice from her landlord that her rent could increase by $1,000 and that the new restaurant slated for the former Johnny’s Grill might expand to her adjoining Fleur space.

"I saw no point in paying more money for a location without a lease, and didn’t want to be put in a position of having only six to eight weeks to move," she said. "This was an incredibly stressful process, but I am looking forward very much to our expansion."

Landlord Saul Osacky and Dustin Tripp, who is opening Georgia Mae's at Johnny's Grill, could not be reached for comment.

Though she hadn’t intended a move so soon, Thompson said “the new location is beautiful and I am thrilled to offer more to the Logan Square neighborhood.”

Fleur flower shop's new 1,800-square-foot space is owned by Logan Square Realtor M. Fishman & Co.

“The [outpouring] of concern that we will still be in the neighborhood, the offers to help pack and move and the overall excitement as we make this expansion has left me overwhelmed with happiness and pride for my shop and work,” Thompson said. “I can’t thank the residents of Logan Square enough for all their kind words. I opened in the neighborhood because of its sense of community and charm, and am truly honored to still be a part of it.”
