Playwright Will Talk About Adapting 'Native Son' at DuSable Museum

HYDE PARK — The DuSable Museum of African American History will host a discussion about adapting “Native Son” for the stage at Court Theatre.

Nambi Kelley, who adapted Richard Wright’s novel for the Court Theatre, will join experts in black literature for a discussion at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 9 at the museum, 740 E. 56th Place.

University of Chicago professor Kenneth Warren will moderate a discussion between Kelley; Arnold Rampersad, a former Stanford University professor and Ralph Ellison biographer; and Melissa Barton, the curator of prose and drama at the Yale University library.

The University of Chicago will also host a free screening of the 1951 film adaptation of “Native Son” at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Logan Center for the Arts, 915 E. 61st St.
