NORWOOD PARK — Monday marks the official end of summer, but Norwood Park residents got a jump-start on fall activities this weekend.
This year's Norwood Park Fall Fest, held at 6088 N. Northwest Highway on both Saturday and Sunday, is a first in the three-year history of the festival.
Despite the rain, families flocked to the fest Saturday for all things autumnal, from a magic show and live music to painting pumpkins and munching on caramel apples. We spotted some kids sitting on barrels of hay wearing hooded ponchos, and it made for some pretty adorable photos.
Bea McDonough, executive director for the Norwood Chamber of Commerce, said the festival has grown quite a bit since they first started, adding that she continues to reach out to more local vendors and musical acts.
"Why go to Edison Park when we have it all right in our backyard?" said Chris McFarland, an employee of local shop Pearl Gallery, a vendor at the fest.
