WEST LOOP — New neighbors have prompted West Loop hot spot City Winery to open for lunch.

Starting Monday, City Winery, 1200 W. Randolph St., will offer lunch service from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. weekdays. Lunch will be served up in the winery's dining room, and weather permitting, in the 5,000-square-foot outdoor wine garden.

“The neighborhood is expanding rapidly — we have three new residential buildings in a three-block radius,” Greg Kitowicz, City Winery general manager, said Wednesday.

Add in the neighborhood's expanding workforce, including future Google offices at 1000 W. Fulton Market, and the restaurant is expecting a crowd.

Kitowicz is hoping to attract Loop lunchers, too, by offering free valet service during the day, he said.

The wine-infused lunch menu, conceived by executive chef Andres Barrera, offers new salads and sandwiches, including a “drunken” Falafel made with wine-soaked garbanzo beans, and flatbreads with crust made using wine lees, the accumulated yeast from City Winery’s aged wine barrels.

The menu will also include selections from City Winery’s dinner menu, including the Wall Dorf salad — named for City Winery founder Michael Dorf, Burrata and burgers.
