Fatal Northwest Side Stabbings Are Related, Police Say

By Mina Bloom | September 7, 2014 9:59am | Updated on September 7, 2014 7:45pm

CHICAGO — Police say a pair of fatal stabbings Friday night are related.

Police found a 36-year-old man stabbed to death in a home in the 5800 block of North Mobile Avenue about 11:50 Friday night. Later, 20-year-old Miran Cerimagic died at Swedish Covenant Hospital after reportedly being stabbed during a robbery in West Rogers Park, within five minutes of the first incident.

But, said Officer Jose Estrada, a police spokesman, "that story was false."

Police believe Cerimagic, of the 6200 block of North Hoyne Avenue, killed the 36-year-old man while attempting to rob him, and was fatally injured. Police sources said the robbery may have been drug related.

Police have another man in custody for the attempted robbery, police said.

Initially Cerimagic's death was believed to be the result of a robbery gone wrong in the 6200 block of North Leavitt Street. Police were told several men approached him and his girlfriend, demanding their cell phones. When he refused, they stabbed Cerimagic several times.

The identity of the man allegedly killed by Cerimagic has yet to be released. Area North detectives continue to investigate.
