CHICAGO — A man was stabbed to death during an attempted robbery in West Rogers Park late Friday.

Around 11:35 p.m., a 20-year-old man was standing on a sidewalk near a park with his girlfriend in the 6200 block of North Leavitt Avenue when several men walked up and announced a robbery, according to Officer Janel Sedevic, a police spokeswoman.

The group of men tried to take the victim's cell phone, but he resisted, and was then stabbed multiple times in his body, Sedevic said.

The victim was identified as Miran Cerimagic of the 6200 block of North Hoyne Avenue.

A friend took him to Swedish Covenant Hospital where he was later pronounced dead, police said.

No other information surrounding the incident was immediately available.
