LOGAN SQUARE — The California Blue Line Station is set to close this week for 42 days as the work crews begin a multi-million dollar renovation of the station.
The work is part of the Chicago Transit Authority's "Your New Blue" modernization program, a $492 million project.
The California station, which originally opened in 1895, will close Thursday at 1 a.m. and will remain closed for six weeks as crews install new platforms, improved lighting, new bike racks and other improvements, the CTA said.
During the closures, riders can take the Number 56 Milwaukee bus to the adjacent Logan Square and Western stations. More buses will serve the route during service hours on weekdays and weekends during construction, CTA officials said.
When work on the California station is complete, the Damen Blue Line stations will close for work. In total, 13 stations will be updated as part of the "Your New Blue" project.
