EDGEWATER — Loyola University's new $3.5 million bike and walking path will be unveiled Friday.

The university bought the 6300 block of North Kenmore from the city last year for $330,000 and has since transformed the street — and parking spaces — into an extension of its campus by 39,000 square feet.

After a ribbon-cutting ceremony, set for 5:30 p.m., the university will host a cookout, set to live bluegrass music.

The new pathway and plaza feature native plants and new green space. The university encourages bicyclists to travel on the path and then north through its campus.

Ald. Harry Osterman (48th) and Loyola University President Michael Garanzini will attend the ceremony.

The event is free and open to the public. Residents are asked to RSVP by emailing communityrelations@luc.edu or calling 773-508-7450.
