LAKEVIEW — The sociologist who wrote "There Goes the Gayborhood" will speak in Lakeview on Friday.

Amin Ghaziani is a researcher with the University of British Columbia. In his latest book, he explored shifting demographics in gay neighborhoods across the United States.

Ghaziani found that Boystown — like similar areas in San Francisco and New York — is becoming increasingly "straight." Possible factors include gentrification, growing LGBT acceptance and changing attitudes within the gay community.

"People no longer feel confined to the singular streets of the gayborhood," Ghaziani said.

From 7-8 p.m. Friday, the author will talk about his book at Unabridged Bookstore, 3251 N. Broadway. Ghaziani plans to address evolving gay communities in Boystown and Andersonville.
