CHICAGO — Police have charged two juveniles in the shooting death of a photographer in Rogers Park last month.
The suspects were charged with first-degree murder in the July 12 murder of Wil Lewis, 28. Charged are 15-year-old Denzel Burke, of the 800 block of West Grace Street in Lakeview, and Michael Phillips, 17, of the 6500 block of South Greenwood Avenue in Woodlawn. Earlier reports stated the older boy lives in Uptown.
The teens were apprehended late last month in Racine County, Wisconsin.
Lewis, a commercial photographer who recently moved to Rogers Park, was shot while standing at a bus stop in the 1300 block of West Devon Avenue on July 12. He had lived in the city since 2012, when he moved from Wisconsin with his wife. Friends said he was a talented photographer who was about to start a new job.
Several days after the shooting, a 31-year-old Uptown man, Eric Vaughan was charged in connection with the murder. Prosecutors said Vaughn drove the vehicle from which someone else shot at a rival gang member, inadvertently striking Lewis.
The are due to appear in court Friday.
