Oscar-winning actor and comedian Robin Williams was found dead Monday, authorities said.

Williams, 63, was found dead in his Northern California home from an apparent suicide, Reuters is reporting.

Although the cause of death is still under investigation, the Marin County coroner's division said it suspects the death was a suicide by asphyxia.

Williams' media representative, Mara Buxbaum, reportedly released a statement that the actor had been battling "severe depression of late," according to CNBC.

Williams was born in Chicago and moved to Michigan. He was a guest at George Lucas and Mellody Hobson's Hyde Park wedding reception in June 2013.
