CHICAGO — Two men have been charged in the December 2013 murders of a church deacon and a blues guitarist in South Shore.
Eric "Guitar" Davis, 41, was an up-and-coming bluesman who was shot to death while in his car about 5:20 on the morning of Dec. 19 during an attempted robbery by two men, police said. Three blocks away, about 45 minutes before Davis was killed, two men fatally shot 74-year-old Willie Cooper, also during an attempted robbery.
Charged in the killings are Mark Hall, 23, of the 7000 block of South East End Avenue, and Devin Aldridge, 23, of the 1600 block of East 68th Street. Both are charged with two counts of first-degree murder. They are scheduled to appear in court Saturday.
Cooper, a deacon at St. Phillip Neri Church, was waiting to pick up his friend Steven Harron, to take him to work, as he did every morning.
