LAKEVIEW — Town Hall police are asking locals to join them in the park Tuesday night for "National Night Out."

The country-wide initiative launched more than 30 years ago. On the first Tuesday of each August, community police officers and neighborhood groups gather outside for a night of games, meet-and-greets and crime prevention awareness.

The Town Hall district — which includes Lakeview and parts of Uptown, Lincoln Park and North Center — will host its night out from 5-8 p.m. at the Clarendon Park Fieldhouse, 4501 N. Clarendon Ave.

Several regularly held CAPS meetings will be canceled this month. Officers are asking attendees to go to "National Night Out" instead.

These include:

• Beat 1913 (Tuesday meeting canceled)
• Beats 1923, 1924, 1925 (Wednesday meeting canceled)
• Beat 1915 (Thursday meeting canceled)
• Beat 1914 (Aug. 13 meeting canceled)
