LINCOLN SQUARE — Edan Lepucki, whose debut novel "California" was plucked from obscurity by Stephen Colbert, will appear Thursday at the Book Cellar.

Colbert has used his Comedy Central pulpit to slam Amazon for playing hardball with his publishing company, Hachette, and encouraged his viewers to fight back by buying copies of "California," also published by Hachette.

Patty Wetli says the author feels a bit "icky" getting the Colbert bump:

“I felt kind of icky to be benefiting from this fight,” Lepucki told the New York Times. “At the same time, the opportunity to reach readers is a fantasy.”

With the boost from Colbert, "California" topped independent bookstores' lists and entered USA Today's best-seller list at No. 43.

"California" is set in a post-apocalyptic world and centers on the characters Cal and Frida, who encounter "a guarded and paranoid community with dark secrets."

Meet Lepucki at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Book Cellar, 4736 N. Lincoln Ave.
