BUCKTOWN — A family-owned neighborhood grocer is celebrating its first decade in business Sunday and marking the milestone with tasty treats, raffle giveaways like a beer cooler and a chance to win "10 percent off for life."

"We have a great staff that has gotten us to this point and a mix of people that we have gotten to know over the years that are regulars," said Bill Maheras, co-owner of Olivia's Market at 2014 W. Wabansia Ave.

Located in an 1890s-era building just west of Damen Avenue, Olivia's Market was opened by Bill and Joy Maheras on Aug. 3, 2004.

The couple named their business for their daughter, Olivia, who is now 12, Bill Maheras said.

The market, which employs 17 people, offers a deli counter, kitchen staples, produce, cheese, flowers, beer and wine.

"It's a high-maintenance little place which is why there aren't a ton of them [around the city]. We take customer requests and try to get in what we can," Bill Maheras said.

To celebrate the 10 year anniversary, shoppers will receive 10 percent off their purchases on Sunday and be entered into a raffle drawing to win "10 percent off for life," as well as gifts from Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams, Smoke Daddy, Olympic Provisions, Great Lakes Brewing Company, Quince & Apple and more.

For folks looking to celebrate, an in-store party is scheduled for 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday.

The festivities will include complimentary tastings of Boar's Head hot dogs, Homer's Ice Cream, Bow Truss Coffee and Half Acre Beer.

Olivia's Market, 2014 W. Wabansia Ave. Hours are 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily. Ph: 772-227-4220.
