COOK COUNTY CRIMINAL COURTHOUSE — A Chicago man is in hot water with police after claiming to have been robbed, but later admitting he was really just setting up his girlfriend's new boyfriend.
Gregory Bratton, 61, lied to police when he gave them the name of a man he claimed had robbed him, prosecutors said Monday during a brief court hearing.
When police questioned Bratton about conflicting statements, the South Chicago man admitted he made up the story about the robbery. The man he named as the robber was really having an affair with his girlfriend, authorities said.
Bratton was charged with filing a false police report. A Cook County judge ordered Bratton, of the 8400 block of South Escanaba Avenue, released on his own recognizance Monday.
