NEAR NORTH — While musicians rock the stages of Lollapalooza Saturday, a few miles north a group of artists will be hosting an art and urban farming festival.

City Farm, at Division Street and Clybourn Avenue, is partnering with the art group Art Depth to put on an interactive art, sustainability and farming festival called "Sustainable Vows."

The event will feature art-marking, fresh food workshops, craft tables, sustainable projects, live music, featured artists creating on-site and tours of the City Farm.

Paul Biasco promises that the event is not a hippie-fest:

“This is a multi-sensory experience where guests will be encouraged to make their own sustainable vows for our city and our planet” said Art Depth’s Executive Director Cheryl Postrozny.

The all-ages festival will have a model dressed in "upcycled" inner-tube couture created by Brigid Ko serving as an inspiration for participants.

The festival will provide the art supplies including pencils, paints and salvaged wood for any participants interested in trying their hand.

"The whole concept is to bring together artists of all disciplines in an environment where all the inspiration is provided," Postrozny said.

Guests are also invited to submit work created during the event into a city-wide exhibit scheduled for October.

A number of featured artists will be creating live during the festival.

A full schedule of events at the festival is available at artdepth.org.

Art Depth is celebrating its fifth anniversary with the farm-based festival.

Featured artists this year include Jyl Bonaguro, Alan Bovinett, Lauren Feece, Keith Gerling, Brigid Ko, Liana Li, Yva Neal, Angelica Robles and Robert Stevenson.

The organization was founded in 2010 and hosts an experimental art event each year with a different theme. Last year's event was held at the Crimson Lounge with a theme of "Goddess."

Postrozny said she was inspired after visiting an urban farm last year and hopes to spread awareness of the city's resources during Saturday's event.

The festival will be held at City Farm, 1204 N. Clybourn Avenue from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. There is a $10 suggested donation.
