CHICAGO — Want to grab a prime spot to view the Chicago Yacht Club Race to Mackinac? Head to the east end of Navy Pier for "Ashore Thing," the race's kickoff viewing party.

Ashore Thing gives attendees a spot to watch a parade of boats before the race and then the race itself. The event is open to the public and will feature a cash bar, face painting and more. It runs from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. July 19.

More than 300 boats are registered for the 333-mile race to Mackinac, which is in its 106th year.

After the boat parade, there will be dancing at The Kensington Rooftop Garden + Lounge.
