Man Attacked Near UIC by Robbers Who Tried to Steal His Backpack

CHICAGO — A man was sprayed in his face with an unknown substance as two men tried to grab his backpack near the University of Illinois at Chicago campus Monday afternoon, police said.

The incident occurred at 4:30 p.m. near a university parking garage at Paulina and Taylor streeets, police said.

The victim, who is not affiliated with the university, was adjusting his backpack when two men approached him.

After one of the men sprayed him in the face with an unknown substance, the victim fought them off.

The attackers ran east on Taylor, but police were unable to track them down.

The victim was treated for minor injuries at UIC Hospital and released.

One suspect is described as Hispanic, 18 to 23 years old, 5-foot-11 and 165 pounds. That man was wearing a blue T-shirt with a Chicago Bears logo, baggy jeans and gym shoes with orange stripes.

The second suspect is described as Hispanic, 18 to 23 years old, 5-foot-6 and 145 pounds. He has a black teardrop tattoo under his left eye and a light mustache. He was wearing a tan T-shirt and baggy jeans.
