ENGLEWOOD — A group of volunteers will join the nonprofit Greater Englewood Community Development Corp. this weekend to clean up a vacant lot along the Dan Ryan Expressway at the 63rd Street Red Line stop.

The one-day event, which organizers say needs more volunteers, is from 8-11 a.m. Saturday, and interested volunteers are asked to meet at the corner of 63rd and Lafayette Avenue.

Jennipher Fulton, a spokeswoman for the organization, said high school students seeking community service hours are also encouraged to participate.

In April, Englewood volunteers helped clean up around Earle STEM Elementary School, 2040 W. 62nd St., during National Volunteer Week.

Darlene O'Bannon, a longtime Englewood resident, was among the volunteers.

"My parents have lived in Englewood since 1969. I have four grandkids that attend Earle and I have roots in the community," O'Bannon said. "It's not where you live but how you live."
