CHICAGO — A 15-year-old boy accidentally shot himself in the foot early Tuesday morning, police said.

About 12:15 a.m. Tuesday, the teen was standing on the sidewalk in the 7600 block of South Coles Avenue when he shot himself in his right foot, said Officer Hector Alfaro, a police spokesman.

The teen was taken to Comer Children's Hospital at the University of Chicago, Alfaro said. The shooting appeared accidental.

Hours earlier, a 40-year-old man was wounded in a West Englewood shooting.

About 5:05 p.m. Monday, the 40-year-old was shot in his groin in the 6900 block of South Ashland Avenue, Alfaro said.

The man was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn where his condition stabilized. Details of the shooting were not immediately available, Alfaro said.
