Wicker Park Free Events: Yoga, Hooping, Movie in the Park, Learnapalooza

WICKER PARK — From yoga to movies, hula hooping and the chance to learn how to do 50 new things at Learnapalooza, it's a big week in the park.

Made possible by several local groups in collaboration with the Chicago Park District, all of the the following events are free and take place at 1425 N. Damen Ave. in the southwest side of the park at Damen and Schiller, unless noted.

Monday

6:30 to 7:30 p.m. LuluLemon Athletica Bucktown hosts an outdoor yoga class every Monday during June. Bring your own mat.

Wednesday

6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Bring your own hula hoop or borrow one from instructor "Carly Hoop," who teaches students how to hula hoop for fun and fitness every Wednesday in June. 
Thursday

 Learning how to keep bees is one of 50 free classes offered by Learnapalooza on Saturday.

8:30 to 10:30 p.m. Enjoy "Dr. Strangelove," the first of three summer Movies in the Park. Bring a blanket to the softball field for the flick, sponsored by The Wormhole Coffee.

Friday

5:45 to 8:45 p.m. Show off your talent or cheer others on at "Wicker Mic," an open mic held on the last Friday of the month through September.  The talent night is sponsored by volunteers from Mosaic Church, Wicker Park Advisory Council, Wicker Park Garden Club and Urban Encounters. Sign up begins at 5:45 p.m.  The evening includes free samples of David's Tea.
 
Saturday 

10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.  Ever wondered about beekeeping or if the items in your kitchen junk drawer could be a source of creative inspiration? 

Learnapalooza offers 50 classes ranging from guitar to self defense and making gnocchi from scratch. Though the volunteer-led classes held throughout the neighborhood are free, donations are welcome.  Registration takes place in the park field house at 1425 N. 10 a.m to 2 p.m.   Every Saturday, members of the Wicker Park Garden Cub tend to the park's gardens.  If you would like to join the group and learn more about gardening and horticulture, send an email to wpgarden@aol.com.
 

Sunday

8 a.m. to 2 p.m.  Presented by the Wicker Park Bucktown Chamber of Commerce, the Wicker Park Farmers Market runs every Sunday through Oct. 26.  Shoppers can expect to find fresh produce, artisan meats and cheeses, flowers and more.  View the complete vendor list here.
