UPTOWN — Stone Brewing is inviting lovers of bitter beers to Bar on Buena Thursday for a hoppy celebration attended by a pair of Stone's rare brews.

Stone's "Reigning Bar of Bitterness" event, scheduled to start about 8 p.m. at Bar on Buena, 910 W. Buena Ave., is a nod to the Uptown watering hole's "ability to move loads of the bracing brews that are the various Stone IPA brands," according to a release.

The California-based brewery plans to tap two brews that are less prevalent at bars and stores around the city than common year-round favorites such as Stone Pale Ale, Stone Levitation, Stone IPA and Arrogant Bastard Ale.

Stone Collective Distortion IPA will be tapped at the event. It's a collaboration between Stone brewmaster Mitch Steele and two homebrewing rock musicians, guitarist Keri Kelli and keyboardist Kyle Hollingsworth. The double IPA, 9.3 percent alcohol content, is brewed with coriander and elderberries, a touch of citrus and golden oats.

The other brew to be tapped is Stone RuinTen IPA. The beer was first released in 2012 to commemorate the 10th anniversary of another brew, Stone Ruination. Stone RuinTen, described by the brewery as a "Weapon of Hop Destruction," packs a hoppy punch with a touch of citrus just like Stone Ruination, but boasts an even higher alcohol percentage, 10.8 percent.
