GLADSTONE PARK — LifeSource plans to open a new blood donation center in Gladstone Park on June 30, a company official said.

The new LifeSource blood donation center, 5316 N. Milwaukee Ave., is located in the Gladstone Corners strip mall, and will be more convenient for donors traveling by public transportation, according to a statement from the company.

LifeSource was forced to close its blood donation center in the Six Corners Shopping District to make way for a new PetSmart.

Heather Cherone discusses where Northwest Side residents can now donate blood:

Ald. John Arena (45th) announced in April that the pet supplies superstore would take over LifeSource's location as well as the long vacant storefront once occupied by Blockbuster next door at 4640 W. Irving Park Road.

PetSmart is expected to open at Six Corners in September, although the store opening was not listed on its website.

Workers installed PetSmart's new floors last week.

Blood donations usually drop during the summer because of planned vacations and family travel, said LifeSource Donor Center Director Geri Venable.

"Our mission is to make donating easy, convenient and readily accessible,” Venable said.

Donors can schedule an appointment by calling 877-543-3768 or going to lifesource.org.
