RAVENSWOOD — Once a hub for industrial manufacturing, the Ravenswood corridor is now home to a number of businesses focused on promoting sustainable living, many of which will be on display during Thursday's "Greener Ravenswood" event.
Turin Bicycle, River Valley Farmer's Table and Noktivo Non-Toxic Spa are among those that will be showcasing their wares and services during the event, which benefits beautification efforts in Ravenswood as well as McPherson Elementary and St. Matthias School. In 2013, "Greener Ravenswood" raised more than $12,000.
Koval Distillery and Begyle Brewing will be sampling their whiskies and beers, and the evening will also include chef demonstrations and a silent auction.
The greening of Ravenswood, an initiative of the Ravenswood Community Council, has, over the years, addressed the Asian Longhorned Beetle infestation, raised funds for median landscaping and planters and organized cleanup projects. Most recently, RCC has introduced a sustainable speakers series to promote sustainable lifestyle choices.
Tickets for "Greener Ravenswood" are $30 for members of the RCC and $40 for non-members and can be purchased online. The event will take place 5-9 p.m. at Beyond Design, 4515 N. Ravenswood Ave.
