CHICAGO — Sheriff's deputies found a 13-inch-long alligator in the dining room of a Chatham apartment where they were serving out an eviction.

The discovery was made about 8:40 a.m. Wednesday in the 8200 block of South Vernon Avenue when deputies called Chicago Animal Care and Control after finding the reptile in an aquarium tank in the dining room.

The alligator was taken away without injuries either to itself or the people at the scene.

The person being evicted was at the apartment at the time of the incident, but wasn't charged.
