GRAND CROSSING — Shortly after the school year ends for Chicago Public Schools, the Gary Comer Youth Center will start its Summer Academic and Enrichment Camp for students in third through eighth grades.

Students will learn Spanish and French and will have math and science classes, too.

The camp runs from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. June 23-Aug. 1 at the center, 7200 S. Ingleside Ave., and the cost is $350 per child. And for youths who are already members of the Comer Center, the cost is $225 or $300 depending on seniority, said Levoria Thompson, athletic coordinator for the center.

Registration will be open from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. weekdays until the program reaches its capacity of 150 kids, Thompson said.

"Spots are filling up fast especially for fourth grade, so I encourage parents to register their children as soon as possible," she said. "Lunch is provided to students and we will have weekly field trips also."
