CHICAGO — A 22-year-old man was charged with attempted murder after shooting at police officers who confronted him after he fired shots a group of people in Grand Crossing Tuesday morning, police said.

Gerald Preacely Jr., of the 6600 block of South University Avenue in Woodlawn, was charged with two counts of attempted murder and unlawful use of a weapon by a felon.

Preacely fired shots at a group of people around 9:25 a.m. Tuesday in the 6400 block of South King Drive, police said, and when they confronted him, he fired at two officers, they said. No one was hit.

He was taken into custody and charged. Preacely is a convicted felon who was on parole at the time of the shooting, police said.
