CHICAGO — A 31-year-old man was fatally shot Sunday evening in the Jeffrey Manor neighborhood on the city's South Side.

The shooting occurred around 8:50 p.m. in the 9600 block of South Brennan Avenue when the man was shot multiple times. He was taken to Christ Hospital where he later died, said Officer Ron Gaines, a police spokesman.

The man was later identified as Denero Appleton, of the 9900 block of South Calhoun Avenue.

The man was a documented gang member, according to police.
