CHICAGO — A 30-year-old man was killed in a car crash while he was attempting to flee from police on the city's West Side Thursday afternoon, authorities said.
About 1 p.m., police responded to a call of man with a gun near South Homan Avenue and West Lexington Street in Homan Square, said Officer Veejay Zala, a police spokesman.
When officers arrived, a man fled the scene in a car and then crashed into four vehicles less than a mile away near South Hamlin Boulevard and West Jackson Boulevard, Zala said.
The man was fatally injured in the crash. Four others were also injured and were taken to area hospitals where their conditions had stabilized.
Police could not immediately say if the 30-year-old died on the scene or was taken to a hospital. Details about whether or not police were actively chasing the man when he crashed were also not immediately available.
