Chatham Shooting Leaves Woman, 58, Dead, Two Others Wounded

CHICAGO — A 58-year-old suburban woman was killed and two others were wounded in a shooting Thursday evening in the city's Chatham neighborhood.

About 5:25 p.m., police responded to a call of a shooting in the 700 block of East 79th Street, said Officer Veejay Zala, a police spokesman.

Betty Howard, 58, of Broadview was pronounced dead at Northwestern Hospital at 6:12 p.m. Thursday, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office.

Howard was shot in her head, police said.

A 58-year-old man suffered a graze wound in his stomach, and a 23-year-old woman suffered a graze wound in her hand. Both were treated on the scene.

Police could not immediately provide details about the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
